Enter the Gungeon Review
Updated: Apr 20, 2021
Enter the Gungeon it’s a roguelike game where you can pick from 4 different adventurers to go to the gungeon and kill their past. The game shines out the guns as it is the main reason why people love the game. The developer behind the game, the Dodge Roll, has a brilliant mind for roguelike games and they did it well.
The main story begins where there’s a gun with magical power that can kill the past that buried inside the gungeon. The story itself is blurry and players need to read the gamepedia to understand the full story of the game. Inside the gungeon, the player will meet a lot of characters that will help as time goes by in the gungeon. Don’t forget to check at the false wall because many secrets cannot be seen.
The gungeon is immersive, from the bullet that you shot that remains in the ground to items that can be stolen by a rat. The game has many mechanics from rolling, kick a table, use blank, sliding, and many more, the downside of it you need to press a lot of buttons to use all the features. The gungeon’s holds a lot and a lot of guns, even some silly guns shot fishes and bees.
I have a hard time listening to music because the sound of the music got covered by the sound effect from the guns and explosions. Don’t get me wrong the music well deserves but it just not noticeable by the player. I like how detail the pixel graphics are, from every shatter of the paper that gets shot is there. Simple pixel art can be beautiful where you can see the developer put some extra work on the pixel art.
If I want to be honest, I haven’t finished the game yet. I always end up dying in the 4th boss and I just can’t beat it. This makes the game is a very skilled base where you need to play a lot to finish the game as your skill crank up. The bad side is, the casual players probably won’t be able to finish the game or will finish the game for a long long time, but It also because of the genre. Although, the game is fun and I cannot wait to invite my friends to play along.
