STAR WARS: Jedi Fallen Order Review
STAR WARS: Jedi Fallen Order, an action-adventure soul game developed by Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Titanfall and Apex Legend. STAR WARS: Jedi Fallen Order itself was released on November 15, 2019, which tells about a Jedi survivor from Order 66 named Cal Kestis who was targeted by the Empire. When I played it, the gameplay wise was very similar to Dark Souls and Sekiro with some little tweaks around the STAR WARS universe.
You will play as Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. Cal survived alone by hiding his Forces power from the Empire as a scavenger of aircraft from Clone Wars in Bracca. When Cal is forced to use his Force power to save his friend Prauf, Cal's presence senses two Inquisitors named Second Sister and Ninth Sister to hunt down a Jedi. The two Inquisitors detained Prauf and Cal. After Prauf is killed by the Second Sister, Cal turns on his lightsaber and attacks the Second Sister.
When Cal fighting the Second Sister, the Ninth Sister throws Cal into a moving train, giving Cal a chance to escape. While running away, Cere Junda and Greez Dristus appeared on a plane called Mantis to save Cal. After a couple of Strom Trooper and an epic short duel with the Second Sister whos the main villain, Cal finally got saved by Cere. After saving Cal, Cere explains herself as a former Jedi Master that Cal can rebuild the Jedi Order. At the end of the explanation, Cal’s journey is about to get started.
The story from this game is originally taken by the STAR WARS world, so new STAR WARS fans like myself, I get to know some of the characters and stories from the STAR WARS world. Cal's character with Force powers and a traumatic past create Cal's unique and complex character. Some of the characters also have their own uniqueness and problems that need to be resolved during their journey through the galaxy. What I like is the relationship between Cal, Cere, and the Second Sister.
If you've played Dark Souls, combat mechanics like parry, block, and dodge from this game are very similar. The uniqueness of STAR WARS: Jedi Fallen Order is the difficulty selection offered by the game. There are 4 difficulty options: Story, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master, and Jedi Grandmaster. The harder the difficulty, the narrower the window to parry, the more aggressive the enemy, and Cal will receive extra damage. The difficulty selection is a uniqueness that I like in this game.
Remember where this game was similar to Dark Souls? Yes, but this game is more forgiving on the combat side than Dark Souls. STAR WARS: Jedi Fallen Order is a game suitable for players who are playing soul games for the first time because the themes are not as complex as those offered by Dark Souls, and the combat mechanic is controlled by the difficulty that player like myself can reduce or increase mid-game. So players can experience Jedi Grandmaster difficulty and Story difficulty in one save file.
You are traveling from planet to planet using the Mantis plane. Each planet has its unique flora and fauna, as well as many locations to explore. Map from BD-1, the droid that will always accompany me, is a friend to detect which locations have not been visited. Map BD-1 will help mark locations that have not been visited, so when you leave the planet before fully explored the planer, you can come back again after finishing the game to explore the unvisited locations and probably the secret area.
The cinematic visuals presented by this game are quite good. The finishing move where Cal manages to pull off a perfect parry has made this game better than it should be. Some of the flora and fauna designs created for the planets have been well conveyed. The sound of Cal's lightsaber swing is enough to spoil my ears, even I like to fight enemies for no reason because I want to hear the lightsaber sound. The Music and voice actors of all characters are also good.
I played this while subscribing to EA Play on Steam using the Xbox controller. For gamers in general, this game is good enough to be played from the story and gameplay aspects, as well as to the first-time gamer who just experience the souls game genre. If you are a hardcore Dark Souls player, this game is suitable for you with Jedi Grandmaster difficulty. I am very satisfied with this game as a whole, especially the combat mechanics, which I am so impressed with.
