Super Meat Boy Review
Updated: Apr 20, 2021
The old 2010 Super Meat Boy created by Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, both known as Team Meat. Super Meat Boy used to be a flash game but right now, it’s more than just a flash game. It is incredible how this game grows from Newgrounds up to Nintendo Switch, and survive this era of the video game.
The game has a simple storyline where Meat Boy always tries to rescue Bandage Girl at every level in the game but gets kidnaped every time Meat Boy reaches Bandage Girl by Dr. Fetus. With a simple animation, everyone can easily understand the cute and funny cutscene. The chapter itself has its own boss level where you either escape, dodge, or trying to live from the evil boss.
The game forces you to get a perfect jump every time you advance to another level with a different obstacle. One miss jumps, that’s mean you’re dead. It’s a funny game design where you have that hunger to do a speed run at every level, but you just died to a simple obstacle that frustrates you a lot. Plus, being a Meat Boy with a super slippery body makes it harder to control.
The funny cutscene and music make me smile every time Meat Boy failed to get to Bandage girl or even Dr. Fetus failed horribly. I’ve noticed some of the cutscenes haven’t been polished well where there’s some miss animation and it shows a lot where this game is made by two persons so not many to complain about. The songs also remind me of the old retro days and it gives you an idea that this game is pretty old.
Super Meat Boy is making my hands hurt and makes you rage so easily when you miss a jump. Even though it is a ten year game, I still enjoy it from the ridiculous cutscene, the frustrating level, and the rage. I believe that Super Meat Boy is still one of the best platformers out there and people still playing it for the sake of how fun this game is. Super Meat Boy also got a sequel called Super Meat Bot Forever and I’m pleased to play it!
