World War Z Review

Since World War Z was free, I’ve decided to take some time to play and review it, since my friends also ask me to play the game. This third-person zombie game developed by Saber Interactive brings the experience of the World War Z movie from 2013. With the three other survivors, can you survive the endless zombie horde?

The game takes place in 4 different cities: New York, Jerusalem, Moscow, and Tokyo. Each city represents a chapter in the game with different missions and storylines from surviving the city to rescue a scientist. The game didn’t focus too much on the story itself, but every character has its own back story that you can watch after you end the chapter with that character. It’s a bit weird that how they give the player a backstory after they finished the game.

The developer surely focuses on the zombie's AI. The horde of the zombie makes you goosebumps whenever they can climb walls or attack a massive group like a zombie tsunami. The good news is, every weapon using a suppressor won’t alert other zombies from far away and causing a horde. There classes in this game that determined the player’s playstyle like Gunslinger, Medic, Fixer, etc.

The game has a high graphic and a lot of little detail, especially the zombies. From the high graphics, I’m impressed by how the game feels smooth with all 100+ zombies running towards you and didn’t cause any lag or issues. Besides that, I like the music where there’s an indicator when to go stealth (use suppressor) or loud. The sound effect from the zombies also tells you what’s coming from the door you about to enter.

The game feels OK at the moment where you first time play the game but there’s a boring side when you play the same chapter with the same scenario repeatedly. Adding the difficulty does change your playstyle but you need to grind the specific class until you hit a high level on that class to play it. I recommend playing with your friends since it is fun and it fills your Left 4 Dead nostalgia bar.
